One of the earliest stars to insure a body part was Ben Turpin, the cross-eyed comedian from the silent film era. According to insurance firm Lloyd’s of London, Turpin insured his eyes in case they ever became uncrossed. The policy was for $25,000, which is over $300,000 in today’s money.

2. Betty Grable
Actress Betty Grable was probably the most famous pin-up in history. She was also the first star to own million-dollar legs when in 1943, her studio took out a $1 million policy with Lloyd’s. That would be nearly $14 million today.
